Who Are We?

Teesside Dragon is a martial arts club operating in Teesside, U.K., training and developing the practical applications of Wado Ryu karate, and the combat system of Torite Jutsu.

With over 50 years of martial arts between them, instructors Stuart Howe and Neil Ellison train in both the traditional martial arts, and in modern combat systems.

Club Instructors

Stuart Howe 5th Dan Wado Ryu, 1st Dan Torite Jutsu, 1st Dan Okinawan Kempo.

Stuart has considerable experience in Wado Ryu karate and jujutsu, Torite Jutsu, Aikido, Escrima, semi & full contact karate.

Neil Ellison 4th Dan Wado Ryu, 1st Dan Torite Jutsu, 1st Dan Okinawan Kempo.

Neil's background is in Wado Ryu karate and jujutsu, Torite Jutsu, Aikido and Taekwondo.

Open Circle Institute

Our Club is a member of Open Circle Institute, of which Neil & Stuart are North-Eastern Directors. OCI is an association dedicated to the furtherance of the martial arts by the inclusion of the study of the principles of traditional Chinese medical science (TCMS).

OCI has two branches - traditional, and combat. In the traditional side we apply the principles of TCMS to conventional martial arts such as karate, ju jutsu, aikido and kung fu, and in doing so rediscover the original meaning and applications of their principles and techniques. In the combat side we apply the same study to close-quarter encounters in the practical, every-day arena.
